Shoreline describes Celebrate Shoreline as a birthday party for the whole city, and this year, the organizers have totally pulled out all the stops to make sure there’s something for everyone! The entire staff of Fweedom was stoked when we saw the agenda, so make sure to leave your schedule open this month—there are plenty of events happening you won’t want to miss!
This Thursday, everything kicks off with Aurora Theatre’s free performance of Oliver!, the acclaimed musical reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale of a loveable street urchin’s struggles in the rough-and-tumble world of Victorian London. On Friday, talented local soccer teams will compete in Celebrate Shoreline Classic, a three-day shootout certain to produce some fantastic play, so don’t worry if you haven’t been able to get Sounders tickets this season!
Local music fans will want also want to mark their calendars for August 16th, when the 10th Annual North City Jazz Walk hits downtown Shoreline, and folks will be free to wander amid the city’s music venues and check out some of the Northwest’s best players.
The weekend of August 19th will take the festivities out with a bang. First, amatuer skateboarders from around the Sound will descend on the Paramount School Park to show off their skills, and all proceeds will benefit Seattle’s chapter of Skate Like a Girl. There will also be a full-fledged festival featuring carnival games, face painting, fair foods, live music, and a classic car show. Of course, adults will be able to take a timeout in the beer garden, but don’t worry, the friendly budtenders at Fweedom can offer plenty of suggestions for folks who want to keep their weekend green and serene.
Thankfully, plenty of the activities are free. To make sure you don’t get left out of any fun, head to the official Celebrate Shoreline site for a complete breakdown for all the events and registration deadlines. Happy birthday Shoreline!
